Contemporary Comics Journal Volume #6 by the Korean Manhwa Content Agency(Komacon) has been released! It’s been over a half-year since the COVID-19 hit our lives. Reflecting the current challenging time ?disastrous socio-economic and political crises and concerns caused by the pandemic,- this edition of the jornal highlights comics on the topic of diaster, which have become eerily relevant. How disaster has been depicted in Korean comics and their implications are dealt in the cover story featuring some of the works such as “Yahoo by Taeho Yun,” “Tidal Territory by Cho Seok,” “Sweet Home by Carnby Kim and Youngchan Hwang ? getting adapted by Netflix,” “Hive by Kyusam Kim,” and “Distant Sky by Inhwan Yun and Sunhee Kim.” From the impact of the experience of disaster on individuals itself to so many related issues like isolation and survival, horror and panic, dehumanitazation and the exposure of problems in the society are covered in these comics with powerful metaphors, character-driven narratives and emotionally charged storylines!
