KANG Jung-gyu was born in North Manchuria but grew up in Chungcheong Province, South Korea, after moving there upon the liberation of Korea on August 15, 1945. After graduating with a degree in literary creation from Seorabeol University of the Arts, he worked as an Oddugi night school teacher for more than 10 years.
KANG began his literary career writing novels, and later switched to fairytales. His works deal with the everyday lives of children, religious issues, restoring humanity and traditional discourse. KANG pursues a world filled with warm humanism by tackling the division in Korea, bringing back the art of storytelling and understanding the everyday lives of children.

Since taking a job at the ‘Christian Shinmun’ newspaper in 1973, KANG has continued to work as a journalist and professor. He founded in 1997 and remains an active writer to this day.
