To recognize the importance of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind around the world, Cities of Literature have been involved in joint simultaneous celebration of World Poetry Day (21 March) since 2018 with specific motive each year, initiated by the lovely folks at city of Granada.
This year’s edition of World Poetry Day was celebrated, connecting poetry with nature since the UN declared March 21 as the World Forests Day, which could be the perfect historical moment to connect both celebrations.
As the various events planned a head of time were inevitably cancelled out due to the global outbreak of the Coronavirus, cities of literature across the world made the unprecedented but essential move to re-design WPD and continued to celebrate in a digital space.
Part of this world wide commemoration, Bucheon City of Literature posted 10 poems written by our local poets with the theme “When Poetry Meets Forest” online. The poems were shared in Korean as it is to celebrate cultural and linguistic diversity.
